Hi All,

I understand and agree with Tim's comments below about use of bander codes in exceptional circumstances. But hopefully, this and past discussions here make us aware that we should use real bird names (when possible) to make posts easily accessible to all.

Thanks,

In Mark Hoffman's recent post, a banding code was used in the subject line but the word "avocet" was clearly spelled out in the post itself.

I would politely remind everyone that many birders wish to get the word out ASAP on network connections that aren't always the best or areas in which service is limited. I believe the avocet was at Truitt's Landing, a place where I've had zero service in the past. In this case, I think a banding code in the subject line is fair, as long as the bird's full name is included in the post itself.
