Subject: [MDBirding] Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Jones Falls

Following on from Mr T Carney's early return warning, I decided to go look
for the YCNH today. I took the metro to Mondawmin, and walked across Druid
Hill park (lake highlights 3 coots, 15 ruddy ducks and a pied-billed grebe)
to the Wyman Park exit. I crossed the bridge on the way to a meeting at 130
and saw no herons either on nests or fishing. On the way back at 4ish, I
did see one on the north side of the bridge, looking cold in among some
rocks on the left hand side of the river. The bird was showing off its
plumes.
For anyone requiring further information on whereabouts, ebird has the
hotspot.
So basically, they're there, but if you want a dead cert wait until they're
more nestbound!
Best
