Wow, that must have taken some doing by the jay! I had a chickadee get stuck behind the partition in one of those small round "satellite" feeders once. Don't know if it would have escaped on its own but I unscrewed the two halves and released it.

A friend sent me the attached photo of the Blue Jay stuck in her small bird
feeder.� She said she came home from work and glanced at the
feeder and something did not look right.� She said the top was off the
feeder and somehow the Jay had gotten in and was very stuck.� She did manage
to get it out with no harm to the bird or feeder.
I have had small birds get their head stuck in the ports on tube feeders but
never a whole bird.
