Subject: [MDBirding] Tundra Swans today in S FRED CO & some RBNH departure info

Hi

Over 70 TUSW incl some juves were in a field SE of Burkittsville this morning where i have pretty routinely seen them over the last several weeks to months. They were joined by as many as 24 [assumption not having a spotting scope] Ring-billed Gulls, which made quite a contrast in size. The specific location was W of Catholic Church Rd just a short distance [~1/2 mile]from the intersection of Gapland Rd. There is a small farm pond just to the E of CC Rd at this point.

At the feeder, my Red Breasted Nuthatch was last seen one week ago on 3/22/13.

According to Birds of Maryland and the District of Columbia by Stewart & Robbins [North American Fauna #62, pub date 1958]:

Latedeparture records for Spring RBNH migrants include
5/18/1886 [DC]
5/18/1913 [DC]
5/23/1949 [PG CO]

In addition a "summer vagrant" was observed also in PG CO on 7/22/1943.

Bob Ringler can probably add to this information...
