Several new arrivals this morning between mile markers 20.5 and 24.5. A common loon in breeding plumage was diving near Rileys Lock. Two yellow palm warblers were with a small flock of yellow-rumped warblers above Rileys. A brown-headed cowbird was singing at Violettes Lock. Three great egrets passed through early headed upstream.
A large number of horned grebes remain on the Potomac. I counted 37, with about 10% now in full breeding plumage. A large flock of scaup and a smaller flock of ring-necked ducks remain downstream of Blockhouse Point.
