Subject: [MDBirding] Cattle Egret in Pasadena

Hi Everyone,

My wife Becky spotted a CATTLE EGRET in Pasadena this afternoon. It was foraging in the grassy area at the east end of Route 100, where it meets Mountain Road. It is the first March record for Anne Arundel Co. in eBird, though I suspect Bob Ringler has other records in his database. An unexpected new March bird for me today. I love this time of year.

In MD Biodiversity news, Jim Brighton and I have both hit 400 species in our "Biodiversity Challenge" to identify 1,000 species of living thing in Maryland in 2013. My 400th was a singing Pine Warbler at Downs Park today.

If inclined, you can keep tabs on our madness here:

(Note that the "Selected Sightings By Others" list is by no means complete, of course.)

Good birding!

Bill
