Beautiful day to be out and some spectacular birds. 3 YELLOW CROWNED NIGHT HERONS close to the nest at Jones Falls. A beautiful sight with the backdrop of the scenery. Next was Diamond Point Rd. flats (seen Fred Schaffer paddling in his kayak-wow, must have been quite an experience among the gulls!) The LITTLE GULL was absolutely stunning. First time I was able to see that black cap, preening in flight! Lots of BONAPARTE'S and an OSPREY were other highlights. Finally Loch Raven Reservoir. Unfortunately, the Red Necked Grebe was a no show, but still nice birds around, as my husband and I walked the fire rd. at the Skeet and trap center. Best birds there were a pair of PINE WARBLERS, male singing his little heart out, a dapper male YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER, and 6 BLUE WINGED TEALS. Lots of HORNED GREBES, coming into breeding plummage. 2 COMMON LOONS seemed to be an unusual sight. Can't wait for a nice warm front to come through and bring on the birds!
