Subject: [MDBirding] Rusty Blackbirds, Catbird and more @ KAG this morning

Hi all,

We went down to Kenilworth Park and Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this morning in hopes of catching up with some of the good birds reported yesterday. Unfortunately, the cold overcast day did not "bring them out" and about the best that could be scraped up at KP was a single Wilson's Snipe flushed from the no-mow area and a single Savannah Sparrow, also in the no-mow area. No trace of any pipits, meadowlarks or warblers, much less yesterday's "mega" Short-eared Owl. Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens was much more active, best birds being eight Rusty Blackbirds creaking along the first part of the River Trail (on right in wet vernal ponds), a single Catbird being chased by two Mockers, and about 4 (maybe more) Fox Sparrows, two of them singing. A couple of Ospreys, single Great Egret, and both Green-winged Teal and Common Mergansers off the outer observation platform were also of interest, as were a few Tree Sparrows and some singing Swamp Sparrows. A Great Blue Heron flew overhead carrying nesting material (there is a near-by rookery).
