Subject: [MDBirding] Winter? Yep. Still winter, with bizarre signs of some unknown season mixed in...

Peering out of my bedroom suite office window right now, I spy the first
American Goldfinch male all decked out in his spring finery. He makes a
beautiful contrast against the muted colors of a dreary, rainy, late-winter
(yes, it is still holding on here) day below South Mountain. also: Fox
Sparrows chasing each other, a bazillion Red-winged blackbirds, cowbirds,
grackles and starlings. The snow birds are still here (WTSP,
NOJU) despite my best efforts to bribe them into heading North so we can
start spring.
