I drove up Rte. 15 this morning, looking at both sides of the road but found Resthaven Memorial Cemetery before I found any gulls. After looking there for about 30 minutes, I spied a male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL on top of a tree and then suddenly a large flock of birds flew to some other trees on the east border.
Eventually I counted 9 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILSS including two males but every single one of them had a white-wing so no red crossbills. One nice factor is that there is only a single row of trees unlike the North Tract of the Patuxent. A birder has a fighting chance of finding these birds. Only other bird of note was a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH.
Afterwards, I continuted up Rte. 15 north for a ways but finally turned around. Again, no gulls of any sort. My best sighting that made me pull over was a flock of pigeons!
