Subject: [MDBirding] Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in Silver Spring
Hi birders,
I was so excited to see a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in my backyard today! That was one of the birds I was very interested in seeing. It was sort of hidden in a small evergreen tree, but it was on the trunk pecking away for quite a while. Through my binoculars I noticed many flying insects in the tree area.( It was sunny and warm at the time so I guess the insects came out.) Fortunately the bird was a mature male so I could not miss the red on his head and on his throat.

For an added treat the Brown Thrasher and the Red-breasted Nuthatch were here today with the other regulars.
