Subject: [MDBirding] Cliff Swallow ... whaaaa????
This morning while surveying southern Jug Bay from my bucket, I decided to try to find a Rough-wing or Bank among the thousands of Tree Swallows coursing over the bay. As I was about to give up I caught glimpse of a chubbier looking swallow and zoomed up to 60 power. The very square tail was obvious, but I really couldn't believe that's what it was. I could see that the belly was far less white than the trees and the throat was not white at all. Then it banked several times, showing the pale rump nicely. Admittedly, it was too far away to eliminate Cave Swallow, but I don't think I have heard of any Spring occurrences of them in MD. This is WAY earlier than any I have ever seen before.
