Subject: [MDBirding] Common Raven - Montgomery County
Near my house this morning around 7:00 in the Georgetown Prep/Strathmore Area, I had a Common Raven repeatedly giving it's "popping" call. I never saw the bird but the best I could tell it was perched high in a tall pine several houses away. The call was very similar to that on this site: http://www.wisconsinbirdsounds.com/common_raven.php or to the "popping calls #1_NY" track on the Sibley App (except my bird only popped and did not have the introductory croak that is on the Sibley App). Given the low, gutteral quality and the fact that it was repeated numerous times over several minutes, I doubt it could have been a mimic.
