Subject: [MDBirding] Evening walk at Artemesia tonight + other news
I have a few announcements to share regarding some upcoming PG Audubon
Society/Patuxent Bird Club events. All events are free and open to the
public.

~Our regularly-scheduled walk at the Luther Goldman Birding Trail at Lake
Artemesia (1st and 3rd Thursdays) is now being held at 6:00 p.m. (it's at 6
from April through August, and at 3 from September through March). Meet a
little before 6 in the parking lot.

~On Saturday we have our monthly walk at Fran Uhler Natural Area in Bowie,
adjacent to Bowie State University, off Lemons Bridge Road. Meet at the
gate at 7:30. Latecomers will have to park outside the gate and walk in, as
access is limited.

~Our next program will be on Tuesday, April 9, 7:30 p.m. (ending at 9:30,
or thereabouts), at the College Park Airport Annex on Cpl. Scott Drive.
Program description (from website) follows:

Each year, as migratory birds return to their breeding grounds, individuals
are faced with the decision whether to return to the site they occupied the
previous year or to settle in a new location, a process known as
dispersal. These dispersal movements have important consequences but are
poorly understood in most species. Studying dispersal in migratory birds
has been difficult up to now because there was no way to track individuals
through their annual life cycle. The use of stable isotopes provides a new
tool for studying these dispersal movements. Mr. Rushing's research focused
on dispersal in American Redstarts and its consequences. The fieldwork was
carried out at the Patuxent Research Refuge and results have uncovered
surprising details about the life-history of this species.

Clark is a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland and the Smithsonian
Migratory Bird Center.

Please see PG Audubon's website at http://www.pgaudubon.org for directions
to various meeting locations and information about other upcoming events!
