Subject: [MDBirding] Nice birds on Rock Creek Trail today
I went for a walk along the Rock Creek Trail (Montgomery Co.), above where the Capital Crescent Trail bridge crosses it (going in from Susanna Lane off Jones Mill). Lovely Spring day! All kinds of frogs calling in the little marshy area, and a Winter Wren along the edge. Further down there was a pair of Phoebes chasing each other around.

The best bird though was the Bald Eagle that came in for a landing in the woods and started preening itself--Rock Creek is not a place I'd expect to see one perched! It was great fun to point it out to several people passing by--and a test of how to describe the location of a bird. It was far enough off the trail not to be obvious until you saw it, then it was close enough they all got good looks. One lady said "You made my day!" My favorite was the little boy who very earnestly looked and tried to see it but couldn't at first, then suddenly I heard "Oooo!" He was very excited. Very satisfying.
