Subject: [MDBirding] Wheaton Regional Park & Brookside today
HI all --

Lovely warm sunny morning but not a huge number of birds. We started at Brookside Gardens because of a traffic tie-up on Randolph Rd.; best birds included a single RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH in a pine tree near the visitor's center, a BROWN THRASHER and a number of bright CHIPPING SPARROWS, some singing heartily. Finally making our way around to the Shorefield area of WRP -- where there is a lot of disturbance due to repaving paths -- we found that the nice diversity of sparrows seen Saturday had seemingly evaporated. We did see/hear a few more Chipping Sparrows and there were just a handful of White-throats and Songs about. Newly arrived were a couple of Eastern Towhees. A half-dozen Golden-crowned Kinglets and a single Ruby-crowned foraged in the pines near Pine Lake, where 4 Tree Swallows flitted. An Eastern Phoebe was calling nearby. But the Pied-bill Grebes of two days ago had gone.

A lovely morning to be out but not tremendously exciting. But spring is just arriving....
