Subject: [MDBirding] Double Crested Cormorants in Montgomery Village MD
Hello all,

Reaching out regarding a bird issue here in Montgomery Village. We have a small lake (Whetstone) which for years has hosted a wonderful Great Blue Heron rookery as well as being a home for many other species of ducks, herons, and other birds. We even have an Am. Eagle visiting regularly now. Unfortunately, a large number of Cormorants have moved in this year, more than the area can support. I counted 40! on Friday about 7pm. The outcome, if left unchecked, will be the destruction of the GB rookery and of the small island which supports it and the other wildlife. Any advice out there on how to manage the situation, or where/who to contact for assistance? I have spoken with the Montgomery Village Parks Director and she will be contacting their DNR person. Many thanks.
