Hi All,

I had some really good birds today at Patterson Park. First of all, I had over 150 SONG SPARROWS and 80 JUNCOS. Pretty incredible!! At the Boat Lake there were also rather large numbers of SWAMP SPARROWS, PALM WARBLERS and both KINGLETS. Hidden in the marshy margins of the lake were at least three WILSON'S SNIPE. There could have been more, but I assumed that they were all the same birds just trying to get away from me repeatedly as I followed them (unwittingly) down the walkway.

At the end of the walk, I sat down for an impromptu hawk-watch at the Pagoda Hill with a pair of casual birders also out enjoying the day. Over the course of about fifty minutes we had several TURKEY VULTURES, OSPREY and KESTRELS, and individuals of BALD EAGLE, COOPER'S HAWK and PEREGRINE FALCON. All provided good looks with pretty close slow passes coming from the Southwest (Key Bridge area) and heading almost due North.

As I was leaving the park I heard a trill that was not a junco and paused to investigate. It turned out to be my first-of-the-season PINE WARBLER hopping around near the maintenance yard. Not a bad day!!

Good Birding,

Mike H.
