Subject: [MDBirding] Black-Crowned Night Herons @ Baker Park
Hi all,

I'm trying to squeeze in as much birding as possible before my lawn season gets too busy. Today I treated myself to a trip to Baker Park in Frederick to see the celebrity Black-crowned Night Herons. Special Thankyou's to Gemma Radko for her spot-on directions!

The herons breeding plumage is beautiful. I watched them for almost 2 hrs flying to adjacent trees and pulling off twigs for the nest. They tended to use fresh 'green' sticks for nest material, in the same way I've observed Yellow-crowned herons.
Did a lot of sketches. With my spotting scope I got a lot of questions about the birds. It would be neat if the bird club could put a poster (like the Silgo herons) so folks could learn about these amazing birds.
