It must be prime time for American bittern migration; had one fly over my house in Damascus last night around 7:55 PM. Was eating dinner on the deck when a large bird slowly making its way north flew towards the house, circled once, then continued north. There was just a hint of light left and the silouhette suggested night-heron/bittern. Luckily, it gave several calls as it circled. We were already debating a call we were hearing from behind the house (which oddly sound spot on for Gambil's quail) with my iphone so was able to quickly double check what we heard. Unbelievable!!!
Cheers, Dave
