I have found herons. Nest just on Pkwy side of creek at trail bridge next to Malone and Windham. About 50 ft up.

I too have been occasionally patrolling Sligo Creek hoping to snare a Y-C Night Heron to no avail so am glad to know I'm not alone in my failure. Perhaps they've eaten all the jambalaya here and have gone elsewhere.
