Subject: [MDBirding] Lilypons and other Frederick spots
Even though Bob and I had a bit of a late start (other commitments early this morning), Lilypons was still very birdy today--60+ species. We ran into birders from PA on a day trip and a couple from upstate New York traveling south who stopped in based on Lilypons' checklists in eBird. Yay for eBird!

Highlights were both Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal (still), a couple of Gadwalls (still), 4 Broad-winged Hawks, both yellowlegs, a couple of Spotted Sandpipers, a Great Egret, 2 Green Herons, returning Barn Swallows (no Martins yet that I saw), House Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, a Hermit Thrush (only my 4th one at Lilypons), lots of Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers, a couple of Louisiana Waterthrushes, and a Common Yellowthroat. I was a little surprised to see a female Hooded Merganser with 10 young following behind, as well as a Canada Goose pair shepherding some little ones around.

We ran into a warbler flock on Park Mills Road with a Pine Warbler, several Yellow-rumps, a Yellow-throated Warbler (Park Mills is a reliable spot for them, BTW), and a Worm-eating Warbler (a big surprise and I know eBird isn't going to believe me!) .

Not much going on at Mouth of Monocacy by the time we got there--Palm and Yellow-rumps and a fleeting glimpse of a warbler that wasn't either one of those, but I couldn't ID it before it disappeared (rats). Both Scaups on the river. No grebes, gulls, or terns today. They like Montgomery County too much to come up here, I guess.

Came home to a singing Blue-headed Vireo.
