Birded Garrett county this Sunday. A beautiful day to be out, with
RUFFED GROUSE drumming and RUBY CROWNED KINGLETS and RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
singing at Finzel.

Found a few first of the year birds for Garrett at least based on
eBird reports: NORTHERN SHOVELERS at both Finzel and Piney Run
Reservoir, and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, and a
BROAD-WINGED HAWK at Broadford Lake.

Overall, was pleasantly surprised to find a good variety of ducks still
around, including GADWALL and BLUE-WINGED TEAL at Piney Run and more
BLUE-WINGED TEAL at Broadford Lake. Almost every body of water had
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, including the pond at Finzel! only one other eBird
record from that location which is from 1987. But oddly, no other
species of gulls were evident, and I also checked Jennings-Randolph Lake
and Deep Creek Lake.

Good birding!
