Subject: [MDBirding] afternoon walk in NW Branch Park, Mont. Co.
Hi,

This didn't get posted as we were out last night -- anyway, we and the dogs had another nice walk in NW Branch park off Locksley Lane in midafternoon. Not a great deal of activity but a good display this year of Virginia bluebells and Spring Beauty, however all the Mayapples have apparently been eaten by deer. (Have to go to Paint Branch park to see good displays of this once-common native.) Birds of interest included 1-2 yellow Palm Warblers, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, a pair of Wood Ducks looking furtive (nested near hear last year), and two Bluebirds collecting nesting material. They must be nesting in a natural cavity, of which there are lots in the older trees. Also a fresh Tiger Swallowtail.
