Subject: [MDBirding] Anne Arundel Ross' Goose

As we were driving up I-81 on Monday, returning from a 3-day hike on the Appalachian Trail in far southwest Virginia (Ruffed Grouse, BH Vireos, BT Green Warblers, Northern Parula, etc!), we got a lovely and helpful textfrom Dan Haas telling us about the Ross' Goose that he had found at Crownsville Containment Ponds/WWTP.

As soon as we were able today (around 1pm) we ventured over there - about a 10 minute drive - and easily found the bird loafing with a bunch of Canada Goose. As we approached, the birds scooted off to the nearest pond to the north, but did not look like they were going anywhere anytime soon. AA County bird #244!

We also flushed a Wilson's Snipe, and had FOY Northern Rough-Winged Swallows, along with a lovely Kestrel.

CAUTION: This is private property. Dan in particular has been effective in negotiating access for birders to this site, which hosts an occasional rarity, but please check in with the folks operating the plant before entering. In my experience, they have always said it's OK.

Good Birding!
