Hi Folks,
I thoroughly enjoyed a full day at North Pt. today and ended at 83 bird species! Best birds were calling LEAST BITTERN, Red-throated Loon, several Virginia Rails, Blue-winged Teals, Little Blue Heron, many Cattle Egrets by the cattle farm, 2 GLOSSY IBIS (FOY) with the Cattle Egrets, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD (FOY), WHITE-EYED VIREO, singing Marsh Wrens, a nice pocket of warblers (Myrtle, Pine and Palm) and kinglets (both species), Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Cedar Waxwings etc.
But, perhaps even more exciting than birds were the abundance of snakes along the Black Marsh Trail. I counted at least 30 Northern Water Snakes, 12 Eastern Ribbon Snakes, 4 Eastern Garter Snakes, and a very obliging Rough Green Snake coiled up in the tall shrubs along the trail. Unfortunately, I failed to relocate the smooth Earth Snake Jon Corcoran and I briefly encountered last Saturday and that slipped away before we managed to get photographs of it.
I also found many blooming Pitcher Plants, something I did not expect this far north on the MD shores.
Many pictures to follow on flickr soon:o)
Enjoy Spring!
