Subject: [MDBirding] Union Mills Wetland, Union Mills, Carroll County, Maryland
I was out on a wildflower photography outing this afternoon and decided to make my rounds in northern Carroll County with a stop at the Union Mills Wetland and then Babylon Road.

The wetland was alive with Swamp sparrows in song and the female Hooded Merganser was busy with her young and a feeding lesson.

I spotted something today that was exciting but I only got a glimpse for a second or two but I'm almost sure it was a Black rail, It ran out of the reeds in the wet area along the open shore and then quickly disappeared into the heavy cattails. Oh how neat that would be if my sighting was correct. It had that "rail kinda stroll".

No sign of the Least Bittern I had spotted a few days back but I saw a couple of Soras in an open area.

Other birds included two Blue-winged Teal and a lot of Canada geese on the main pond. A pair of Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) warblers played in a tree. One Eastern Phoebe was present as well along with the other usual suspects.
