Subject: [MDBirding] Cattle Egret+ at Kenilworth
It was quite cold and windy this morning, but persistence paid off and some
good birds were found at Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in DC. Most
notable was a fly-by Cattle Egret seen by Will McPhail, Jessica and me from
the short boardwalk (actually flying north, but along Anacostia Rd., not
over the marsh/fields). We also heard a Marsh Wren from the same area, that
eventually moved to the marshy area near the beginning of the boardwalk. 3
Great Egrets was a good number, and the most I've seen there in the spring.

Last bird of note is Purple Finch. At least 9 were in the trees around the
parking lot, along with others around the pond.

Otherwise it was the usual set of first arrivers - Solitary Sandpiper,
gnatcatcher, Orchard Oriole. The only two warblers were Common Yellowthroat
and Myrtle Warbler. Scott Loss reported a Prairie Warbler from Kenilworth
Park.

Good birding,
