Subject: [MDBirding] Kenilworth Park - Prairie Warbler & Grasshopper Sparrow
As Paul mentioned, it was really brisk this morning which kept activity much lower than previous visits to Kenilworth. However, persistence still produced a couple of interesting birds. While pishing at some kinglets and gnatcatchers at Kenilworth Park along the shrubby northwest edge of the fields, a male PRAIRIE WARBLER popped into view about 10 feet away and he eventually sang twice before disappearing. A MARSH WREN called from the south edge of the marsh once. And, after giving up and walking towards the aquatic gardens, I flushed a short-tailed sparrow in the eastern peninsula of grassland. After pursuing it until it perched, I was surprised to see another GRASSHOPPER SPARROW (saw one last Saturday too); this one looked different than the previous individual, with a much lighter buffy wash across the front (last week's was almost orange). Unfortunately, I was not looking up at the right time to see the previously reported Cattle Egret.

Other good birds included:

Wilson's Snipe (4)
Purple Finch (>8)
Rusty Blackbird (1)
Common Yellowthroat (2)
Solitary Sandpiper (1)
Spotted Sandpiper (1)
Greater Yellowlegs (2)

and a BEAVER for a bonus mammal sighting.
