Subject: [MDBirding] Swallow Tailed Kite at North Point State Park, Black Marsh!
Hello all

Birded North Point State Pk. with my husband Jim for the first time, and we were thrilled to have a SWALLOW-TAILED KITE fly right over our heads! Unfortunately, he flew over too quickly to obtain a photo. I think we were both in too much shock to think quickly enough, anyway. We had alerted Frode Jacobsen, (nice meeting you Frode!), who was able to text Bill Hubick. We stuck around for awhile to see if it would return, but no luck. Frode said he had one in the park last week, so it could have been the same one. We had the bird as we were leaving, past the marsh when you first enter the woods, when exiting. Prior to that sighting, not too active, but we were able to hear a SORA and VIRGINIA RAIL, at the end of the observation trail, leading from the marsh. Our only warbler was a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. At least 3 beautiful LITTLE BLUE HERONS, flying around and occasionally landing. We then stopped by the farm fields by the Todd's Inheritance Historical site on North Point Rd., and had 60 CATTLE EGRETS and 4 GLOSSY IBIS. After lunch, we drove to Fort Smallwood, again, our first visit there as well. Met Sue Ricciardi, who said it was a slow day. Stayed briefly, and walked around, where the best birds were SORA, BROWN THRASHER and a close HORNED GREBE. Awaiting the next birding adventure with baited breath! Good birding all!
