The American Bird Conservancy his issued an alert, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed extending the incidental take permits (get out of jail free) for Bald and Golden Eagles for wind power facilities from five to thirty years. So once a permit is issued, it could be 30 years before it is up for renewal. We all know how dynamic raptor populations could be, witness the rapid decline in recent memory of the American Kestrel and the disappearance of Broad-winged Hawk as a breeder across much of Maryland.
MOS has opposed this rule and filed comment with USFWS, and we will be doing so with new Secretary Jewel.
