Subject: [MDBirding] Black-throated Blue Warbler at Schoolhouse Pond
I had a few migrants/new arrivals at Schoolhouse Pond today. The highlight was close views of a singing Black-throated Blue Warbler. The bird was in the tangles along the utility right-of-way at the rear of the pond. The bird sang repeatedly as it foraged in the low vegetation. Also of note was a singing American Redstart, another first for the spring at Schoolhouse Pond. The Northern Rough-winged Swallows are also back at the pond, with three present today (I also had three of these birds at Governor Bridge Natural Area yesterday). Flyover gulls were pretty minimal today (84 Laughing Gulls, 3 Herring Gulls and 1 Ring-billed Gull), perhaps due to the 3rd year Bald Eagle perched in a prominent tree along the rear of the pond. Lastly, there was a House Wren singing in the brambles between the pond and the residential townhouses, pretty close to where I believe House Wren nested last year.
