Hi Lydia,
That's a hard bird for Montgomery County for sure. My only spring encounter was on May 14, 2005, when one or two (can't recall exact #) flew over and tried to land at Hughes Hollow while we were participating in the ANS youth club birdathon/MBC May Count. As I recall they almost touched down in the impoundment then decided not to and flew off. I have one other August record, but that's it. They seem very hit or miss (as you experienced) and don't linger long.
