Subject: [MDBirding] Pine Siskins at Brookside Gardens today

Hi all,

We did our usual walk at Wheaton Regional Park and Brookside Gardens (Mont. Co.) today. The cool NE breeze did not promise much despite the sun and unfortunately, we were right. With a couple of exceptions, the only migrants recorded were local breeders. The main exception was a nice flock of eight PINE SISKINS feeding just above eye level in the newly opened buds of Bald Cypress in Brookside Gardens, along the "native plant" boardwalk which leads over from the Nature Center. Anyone looking for these birds should also check the thistle feeders at the nature center.

Other than that, the best were 3 species of warbler (Ovenbird, Parula and Myrtle), quite a few Baltimore Orioles, and a couple of Warbling Vireos (again in the Gardens). Still, it was nice to be out in sunshine!

We need a nice southerly wind and a warm night for things to really crank up!
