It is slow but Ihad a slightly different experience to Gail this morning when I walked early on the stretch of River Rd from West Willard to the turf farm entrance and back. I found several migrants - best being a Nashville Warbler seen very well, and singing loudly, right at the start, as well as 3 Black-throated Greens and a Black-throated Blue. I would never expect this stretch to have a lot of migrants as there is nothing to concentrate them. Plenty of breeders (Prothonotary, Yellowthroat, Parula; a single Yellow; 3 Am Redstart, 1 Black and White and 5 or so Y/T Vireos, though admittedly only 2 Red-eyed Vireos and 2 Ovenbird). I also had a FOY Indigo Bunting, a pair. Grasshopper Sparrows are in, several singing in the field on the other side of Hughes Rd to the Polo Grounds (and I had a flyover group of American Pipit whilst there and also saw 2 Wild Turkeys in the field) and Praire Warbler are around in very good numbers.

Subject: [MDBirding] a late spring indeed
Hi --
Was going over our bird notes for last couple of years and they confirm this is a VERY late spring! On May 4 in 2012, 14 species of warbler and over 20 red-eyed vireos at Wheaton Regional Park -- and that was after a late arrival at the park due to road works. In 2012, again after a late start, 11 species of warbler and 10 red-eyes, plus FOS pewee and veery. And WRP is not as good a place in spring as it is in autumn for some reason. Yesterday we had 3 species of warbler (two of them local breeders) and no red-eyes.
Hope the southerly winds predicted in next couple of days improve the situation!
