Subject: [MDBirding] RED PHALAROPE Frederick - Lily Pons MD
RARE - 1 RED PHALAROPE at Lily Pons, Frederick co, MD. seen from N. shoulder of Lily Pons Road; 3rd impoundment east of Bridge over Monocacy River. First spotted by Stan Fisher. Feeding 25 to 150 ft. n. of road. Alone, spinning feeding; short bill and definitely not needle-like bill; red underparts, including diagnostic red visible all the way back at right rear flank; white cheek. Observed for 15 minutes in excellent light w/binoculars, 13-30x scope. M. obs. experienced with red phalarope.
