Subject: [MDBirding] Golden-winged Warbler (?)
Glancing out my window, I noticed a small bird bathing in my ground bird bath that had too much stark white and black to be the usual Chickadee. When I grabbed the 12x binoculars, I could clearly see bright yellow patches on the front of the top of the head, down to the beak, and the fronts of the wings, with no other yellow. The white and black were prominent on the face and throat, but the bathing activity made it hard to fully resolve the pattern. I grabbed the bird book as it flew away. The only thing that I can find in the books that it could be is a Golden-winged Warbler.

Do any of you know of any other possibilities that I might confuse with a Golden-winged Warbler, considering the field marks that I was able to identify?

I went into the yard and spent some time over the next couple of hours trying to find the bird again. No luck with that particular warbler, but I did see others that are not normally in my yard. Those included Magnolia Warblers, what I think must be Black-throated Green Warblers, a Yellow-rumped Warbler, a Redstart, and some Pine Siskins. Plus a bunch of birds that I could not get enough of a look to identify.

The trouble with warblers is that they have no interest in my feeders, and mainly flit quickly around while staying in the leaves of the trees. If some of them had not been attracted to my ground bird bath, I probably would have missed them all, since I was not intending to be birding this afternoon.
