Subject: [MDBirding] New feature in Maryland Biodiversity Project
Hi Everyone,

I just added a new feature to Maryland Biodiversity Project (MBP) that I think will be of interest to Maryland birders.

It is a simple change with a very useful application. A new column in the "County Records" view shows the total number of counties that have a record for that species in MBP.

1. Start by going to the Birds checklist, then click County Records.

2. Left-click any county's column heading twice so that the species without records in that county are at the top.

3. Hold the SHIFT key and click the "Total" column, applying a secondary sort. You now have the species found in the most counties but NOT in original county.

So, you can easily see that according to our records...

- Harford lacks a Northern Shrike (NSHR) record, though NSHR has been seen in 16 other counties.
- Is Wilson's Storm-Petrel the easiest new county record for Anne Arundel?
- Is Willet the next new county record for Howard?

What records stand out as missing in your home county? Check here:

This works for all categories and taxa, so you can do the same for butterflies, dragonflies, trees, flowers, and lichens. The ease of providing us with new records increases as you read that list.

Share photo records with us on our Facebook and Flickr pages:

Good birding!

Bill

p.s. If you missed it, you can also now search MBP using banding codes such as NOCA, MODO, and CERW.
