Subject: [MDBirding] NW DC Morning Commute - 15 Warbler spp.
You know the peak of migration is here when you plan to arrive to work early, and end up taking 2 hours to walk 2 miles. I encountered three big mixed flocks along the way, including one near Tregaron Conservancy, one at Parking lot A of the National Zoo (consistently good on good days), and one on the research hill at the back of the zoo (private). 15 Warbler species seen/heard: Magnolias and Chestnut-sideds are here in numbers (at least 3 of each), plus a couple more Cape Mays (seems like a really good year for them; still looking for Bay-breasted), and my first Canada Warblers (2) of the year.

The timing of migration this year appears to be great for the various International Migratory Bird Day festivals in the region. Speaking of which, I'd like to plug the FREE event occurring tomorrow in Rock Creek Park in DC around the nature center area. There will be guided bird walks starting at 9, a bird banding demo, a raptor show, food, and latin music/dance. More information can be found at:
