Hi all

I spent c 6AM-230PM birding in DC (Rock Creek) and then portions of Montgomery County.

Highlight was a female Summer Tanager at Blockhouse Point, which was calling repeatedly and showed well. It was more or less all the way down to the canal. I thought I heard a male singing once but could not be sure. There was also a Worm-eating Warbler singing back in the woods more or less at the same point.

I had 23 warbler species at different places, best being a Cape May on Hunting Quarter Rd. B/T Blue and Green were prominent in good numbers. I also had my FOY Swainson's Thrush at Rock Creek as well as a late Purple Finch, quite possibly the same bird I found yesterday but relocated to the Maintenance Yard.

The back roads S of Poolesville did not give up any Bobolinks but I found 4 different singing Vesper Sparrows in the Edwards Ferry Rd/Westerly Rd cluster; presumably the Budd Rd birds are also still there so its a good year for these birds in the local area.

Last stop was at Huntmaster Rd wetlands where some species had moved on but as many as 15 Solitary Sands in the different ponds, with a single Gr Yellowlegs, 3 Lesser Yellowlegs and 2 Least Sands still there.

All in all a good day to be out.

Regards
