Our Purple Martins have been coming in for several weeks now. Today I counted somewhere between 35-45 birds. More came in yesterday so our numbers will probably go higher. We have nesting Tree Swallows, Bluebirds, Carolina Chickadees and C. Wrens...so far.
We still have White-throated Sparrows and as of yesterday Purple Finches. Also on the property: Scarlet Tanager, Wood Thrush, Great Crested Flycatchers, Ovenbird and Phoebe. No warblers other than rumps.
We also set up a Purple Martin gourd rack at Adkins Arboretum. Just as Bill was finishing the final touches and the gourds were up, an adult male landed on the rack. We'll have to see how that turns out. We started with 6 gourds and will be able to increase as needed.
