Subject: [MDBirding] Brood II periodical cicadas in California, MD
Tyler Bell and I went for a 4-mile walk this afternoon in the Wildewood community of California, Maryland, in St. Mary's County. I noticed a black cicada with red eyes (much smaller than the annual cicadas), the first of our Brood II sightings for this 17-year period! Just a short distance away, a second one flew off across the street and attached to the bark of what looked like an oak tree. No sounds from any of them yet and we haven't noticed any skins on trees, but we're excited to have seen some live adults.
