Subject: [MDBirding] 7 Bonaparte's Gulls; 55 Common Nighthawks Violette's Lock, C+O Canal NP,Mont. Co.
Bonaparte's were closer to VA shoreline, 8 pm, 200 yds upstream from dam; dainty with white triangles in wings, fluttering flight just above water like storm-petrels, possibly hawking for insects/midges. 1 ringbilled for nice comparison. I don't usually "ID" gulls but these stood out as "different" immediately. Nighthawks everywhere when I first arrived at 7:50 pm. 55 counted in view at once, with more probables (specks) upstream and at periphery of vision downstream. Biggest flock I have seen in years. Just after front passed with sprinkles of rain.
