Subject: [MDBirding] Sligo and Wheaton Regional Parks today

Hi --

Arrived at Wheaton Regional Park (Shorefield) to find the mowers in full cry, trucks hauling mulch and the mini train tracks being oiled (?) by some interesting piece of railroad gear. The upshot was that birding was impossible so we fled to upper Sligo Park. The bright sunlight soon dimmed and the bird activity as well. We saw only a few migrants, the best a singing male Bay-breasted Warbler. Also found at least 15 blooming Pink Lady's Slippers, very nice. We then tried WRP going in through Orbaugh Ave., and only doing a circuit of Pine Lake to avoid the still-active mowing. Picked up a few more migrants, with pretty good looks at Yellow, Chestnut-sided and Redstart. But for the 15th of May, a poor showing. Maybe a warm clear night will prove better.
