Howdy,

I happened upon a nice small group of warblers congregated at Finzel Swamp Nature Preserve late this morning. I watched an AMERICAN REDSTART, NORTHERN PARULA, CHESTNUT-SIDED, BLACK-AND-WHITE and BLACK-THROATED GREEN warblers converge in the rhododendron near the small pond by the parking lot. A VIRGINIA RAIL was audible from the third footbridge. Swamp, white-throated and song sparrows; a Baltimore oriole; great-crested flycatcher and wood duck rounded out highlights of the expected birds.

At Piney Reservoir, a Baltimore oriole and scarlet tanager sing-off made for an amusing stop. The two shared a serviceberry while quarreling over their patch. A HOODED WARBLER could be heard singing in the woods below the dam.
