Subject: Re: [MDBirding] Kentucky Warbler - The Ridge, Rock Creek Park
The Kentucky was singing loudly and persistently between 4:30 and 4:40 pm, just east of and downhill from the the ridge(picnic area 17)and from 50 to 200 feet from the path that heads downhill towards the creek from the northeast corner of the picnic area. I had great views of it as it flew from spice bush to spice bush, pausing to sing atop or near the top of each.

Because I have been hoping extra-hard for a Kentucky Warbler in DC, I flagged down Mardi Hastings and we unsuccessfully attempted to bushwhack after the bird to confirm its ID (I've already been tricked by Carolina Wren and Common Yellowthroat this year, the former of which was also singing in the area, along with an Ovenbird and Cardinal, which can also sound similar to Kentucky). Later, I told Wallace about the song, but noted that I wasn't confident enough to add it to the morning's list because I hadn't heard a Kentucky song in a few years.

Again, I bushwhacked after it, and it slowly moved away from me to the east. I ended up searching for 25 minutes, as it stopped singing for long periods, but eventually it sang again near Picnic Area 20 and I was able to see it over the road about 25 feet up for visual confirmation!
