Subject: [MDBirding] Violettes Lock - what month is it?
Birds in the trees were what I expected today, but some of the waterfowl were quite unusual for May 18th:

a pair of bufflehead on the river above the ford
a male ring-necked duck on the river above the ford
a mature horned grebe diving in the C&O canal downstream of the intake at Violettes (could this be the same one that stayed until mid-June last year)

Scarlet but no summer tanagers at Blockhouse Pt. Spotted sandpipers continue to be abundant.
