Subject: [MDBirding] Late birding at Fort Dupont - DC
Hi All,

As some of you may know I've been sick a lot recently, so it was a thrill to go out birding again with my wife Andrea at Fort Dupont Park in DC. We got a really late start (11:30 am), but were rewarded with some nice birds and even a nice late flock of migratory Swainson's Thurshes! Before Diner, were gong to check out Fort Bunker Hill and see if anything is flitting about. We also had a red-eyed vireo going a perfect imitation of a Yellow-throated Vireo song - down to the slower pace and everything. I even played a tape and it kept perfect pace. We watched the bird sing so we're pretty sure there wasn't another bird hiding nearby.

eBird List:

Red-shouldered Hawk 1
Chimney Swift 7
Red-headed Woodpecker 1
Downy Woodpecker 2
Eastern Wood-Pewee 3
Acadian Flycatcher 4
Red-eyed Vireo 6
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 1 a surprise. Flying with the Swifts by the parking area.
Carolina Chickadee 12
Tufted Titmouse 10
Carolina Wren 6
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 4 surprisingly common and more vocal than I'm used to this late in spring. normally they shut up by now!
Swainson's Thrush 6 nice flocks in the mature forest south southwest of the parking lot
American Robin 9
Gray Catbird 1
European Starling 2
Cedar Waxwing 4
Scarlet Tanager 1 (beautiful male)
Northern Cardinal 15
