While checking the status of the Yellow-crowned Night Heron nest just below University this AM (nest intact but no birds seen), a very helpful hiker pointed out a Black-crowned Night Heron standing in the creek nearby. Of course, for once I did not have my camera or even cell phone! The bird flew off after several minutes of fine viewing, but I was able to relocate it about a quarter of a mile downstream after retrieving my camera. Picture attached, although not the one I could have gotten if prepared!
