Subject: [MDBirding] Both night-herons in Sligo
I just got back from a walk in Sligo above and below the Golf Course--very birdy even tho I started at the late hour of 10am. Where I parked, just down from the Course, I saw the very occupied Yellow-crowned nest-- an adult standing over 3 spikey little heads. I don't think I've ever seen the babies when they were that small. Later, down at the pond near the hwy overpass, a Black-crowned was stalking thru the shallows on the far side of the water.

Another good sighting near the pond--an immature red shouldered hawk perched, with two robins, of all things, harassing it until it finally flew off and up. Later, tho, it must have come back down, because it suddenly flew out of a tree in front of the golf course and departed hastily, with a kingbird whacking it on the back! Must have made the youngster wish it had stuck with the robins! A few minutes later, one of the parents met it in the air, exchanged a few words (ok, calls) with it, and seemed to escort junior back towards the wood--probably telling him to stay away from exposed perches. He could have borrowed a page from the adult red-tailed hawk I was lucky to spot perched in the interior of a pine by the entrance to the course.
